Lesson learned from “13 Reasons Why”

“13 Reasons Why” is my second review after breaking bad. Entirely a different genre of TV series compares to breaking bad. I began to watch this quite a long time ago, but for some reason, I didn’t continue after the first season. The first season unfolds 13 reasons why a high school girl named “Hannah Baker” died. I saw this character again in the second season; I questioned why it would bring that character again, and I stopped watching it, thinking it was lame.

I didn’t have any sense of anxiety or depression back then. Later on, I met a girl who has been going through many mental disabilities. And I have also been tutoring many students who are going through a lot of mental issues. She said that you see that character in the second season because the main character named “Clay Jenson” imagines her, resulting from post-traumatic stress. So I was like, “Ah, it makes a lot of sense now”.

I started rewatching season one from the beginning, and I continued watching until the end of the series. I will not explain or talk about what’s happening in the series; that would be unfair for the people who haven’t watched yet. But I will say this. This TV series opened up a path for me to look at people from a different angle.

You can’t say or judge a person based on what you see from the outside, and most importantly, you don’t know what they are going through. I just stopped there and looked back at my life what I have done so far. I might have hurt people in my life by criticising or whining without actually knowing what they were going through. It could be because you are not in their shoe, and you assume that they are doing well and are ready to hear it or face it or whatever it is.

In real life, things are not easy at seems, and it’s also not as hard as it looks. But, you always have to take time and deal with it. People struggle in life; especially kids struggle a lot during school or college. They may suffer from anxiety, depression or any other thing. But, we can always support them and let them go through the hard times smoother as possible. That would make their lives more peaceful, and you all help make this world a better place.
